• To appreciate how ISO 14001:2004 / EMAS II define the controls necessary for effective environmental management
• To develop an appreciation of the "risk-based" approach to environmental management contained within the International Standard ISO 14001:2004

• Objectives, scope and terminology of the Standard
• Environmental aspects and their impacts - identification and evaluation
• Assessment of the "significance" of aspects and the recognition of environmental "risk"
• Identification of legal obligations and achieving compliance
• The importance of management commitment and how to encourage it
• Operational control strategies versus improvement - planning and management
• Pollution prevention and continuous improvement - developing the team/communication
